Best International Calling Apps and Services in 2026

A plain comparison of Webbphone, Google Voice, Viber Out, Rebtel, Talk360, Yolla, WhatsApp and FaceTime for calls abroad: who each one is for and how you pay.

Short answer

For free calls to people who use the same app, use WhatsApp, FaceTime or Viber. To call real mobiles and landlines abroad, use a pay-as-you-go service: Webbphone if you want to call from a browser with no app, Google Voice if you live in the US, or Viber Out, Rebtel, Talk360 or Yolla if you prefer a phone app.

There are two kinds of international calling apps. App-to-app services such as WhatsApp and FaceTime are free, but both people need the app and an internet connection. Calling services such as Webbphone, Viber Out and Rebtel connect to the normal phone network, so you can call any landline or mobile, including banks, offices and relatives without a smartphone. They charge per minute or by plan.

1. Webbphone: best for calls without an app

Webbphone works in your browser. You sign up with an email address from any country, add credit from $5 and call mobiles and landlines in 230+ countries. Credit never expires, the dialer shows the rate before each call, and you can verify your own number as the caller ID. New accounts get one free call of up to 1 minute on most destinations. 2. Google Voice: best if you live in the US

Google Voice gives US users a free US number and low international rates from prepaid credit, on the web and in an app. Personal accounts need a US number and work only in the US. Read our Google Voice alternatives if you are elsewhere.

3. Viber Out: best if you already use Viber

Viber Out calls any phone number from the Viber app, with World Credit per minute or a plan.

4. Rebtel: best for regular calls to one country

Rebtel offers credits or a monthly subscription for one country. Calls can go over Wi-Fi, mobile data or a local access number.

5. Talk360 and Yolla: phone apps with prepaid credit

Both apps sell prepaid credit for calls to landlines and mobiles. Talk360 has a free 1-minute test call; Yolla has free Yolla-to-Yolla calls.

6. WhatsApp and FaceTime: free, but only app to app

Use them when the other person has the same app. They cannot call landlines, offices, or people without a smartphone. FaceTime works only on Apple devices.

Frequently asked questions

What is the cheapest way to call another country?

If the other person uses the same app, WhatsApp, FaceTime or Viber calls are free over the internet. To call a landline or a mobile that is not on an app, use a pay-as-you-go service such as Webbphone, Viber Out, Rebtel or Talk360, and compare the per-minute rate for your destination.

Which international calling service works without an app?

Webbphone works in a web browser on a computer or phone, with no app. Google Voice also has a web app, but personal accounts are only for the US.

Can WhatsApp call a landline?

No. WhatsApp calls work only between WhatsApp users over the internet. To call a landline or an office, you need a service that connects to the phone network.

Is a subscription or pay-as-you-go cheaper for international calls?

Pay-as-you-go is usually cheaper if you call now and then or call many countries. A monthly plan for one country can be cheaper if you call that country for many hours every month.
